Floriade is billed as ‘Australia’s Biggest Celebration of Spring’ and it brings people to Canberra by the tens of thousands.

Of course, growing flowers isn’t a sport, but getting outdoors at a community event to celebrate Spring is great for community mental health.

This year, to celebrate the 90th birthday of Rotary in Canberra, District 9710 were granted status as the official charity partner of the month-long flower festival.

A passing family pose their young boy on the District 9710 birthday cake.

A giant cake was built by members of the Rotary Club of Hall and a Rotary display was manned throughout the event by a roster of Rotarians from many clubs in the district.

Rotarians chatted with passers-by as they strolled past the tent. They were encouraged to sign the Rotary birthday card and the details of over 100 people interested in joining Rotary were collected. (These will be distributed to clubs after the event.)

We observed was that even among the colour of the floral displays, the Rotary Fitness shirts stood out and made a great conversation piece.
