Every week you will find members of the Rotary Club of South Bunbury (d9465) cycling around town and enjoying a coffee (the best bit of the exercise we are told!)
Known among their friends as the ‘Cycling Geriatrics’, the group started 10 years ago as a Sunday riding group to get ready for the Annual Southwest Bike Trek in which they did the leg from Harvey to Bunbury; just over 50km. “In those days the riders were all ok their ‘deadly tread’ lies,” says Rotarian Ben Andrew. “Now we have several groups and a lot of them are sporting much faster bikes and regularly ride every Saturday and Sunday – about 20km each ride.”
Not all of the group are Rotarians, but all proudly wear the Rotary colours.
Now that they have their new Rotary Fitness cycling jerseys, they really attract attention. The cycling jerseys are of the highest quality, sporting a customised design made for them by Rotary Fitness.
Local corporate sponsors paid for the jerseys and the profits from the sale have been passed to Australian Rotary Health and allocated toward a new medical research scholarship that will be created through profits from Rotary Fitness clothing.
Rotarian, Ben Andrew said “Group Cycling is one of the tools I have used on my weight loss journey. I’ve lost many kilograms and am now down to a healthy 74 kg in 15 months, through clean eating and good exercise.”
